I Am What I Am 2
Note: This film had it’s sound produced by the talent POW studio in Wellington New Zealand, where my role in the team was as ‘Sound Effects Editor’, & ‘Mix Technician’
Overview
Directed by Haipeng Sun. The second in the I Am What I Am series, and POW Studios’ third collaboration with Yi Animation of Guangzhou, China, this film built on the breakout success of the first. Set two years later, this time in Shanghai, we follow the unlikely trio as they must save their local fighting club by battling their way to the top of the multi-discipline MMA championship.
A more serious tone is set this time, with much higher stakes to battle for. The music was composed by Hui Luan who once again showed his skill in interleaving traditional orchestral score with modern Chinese rock and hip-hop.
With a step up in budget and animation, the soundtrack makes full use of Dolby Atmos, and was edited and mixed here in Wellington. With dialogue recording, composing and mixing done in China, POW managed an international team from the start to finish of sound post.
Yi continues to raise the bar for Chinese animation, and POW is very honoured to have collaborated with them again.
